With counseling, students can expect to define their goals more confidently, select colleges that will be a good "fit" for them and create a plan for their future.

Basic services include:

  • A preliminary consultation meeting with the student and his/her parent(s) to assess needs and goals.
  • A consultation meeting to interpret and integrate the results of self-assessment tools the student will take to help identify personality characteristics and career fields of interest.
  • A review of the student's academic and extracurricular record.
  • An itemized action plan for the student's next steps.
  • A preliminary search of appropriate colleges and universities.

Additional services include:

  • Coaching the student in writing and speaking skills, which will improve the student's ability to articulate their unique characteristics on essays and in interviews.
  • Assistance in brainstorming essay ideas and editing drafts.
  • Provide ongoing consultation and support through the application, financial aid and final college selection process.
  • Mediate conflicts in family expectations about college and the student's goals.
  • Identify and work to enhance or minimize the student's particular strengths and weaknesses which may impact his/her success in college.
  • Provide guidance when a student is considering leaving college before graduation (by dropping out, taking time off or transferring).
